About Surfside Beach

Surfside Beach, known as the area’s family beach, is located in the coastal area of South Carolina known as the Pawleys Island. Located just south of popular Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach is a small coastal community offering two miles of white, sandy beaches that are enjoyed by all who visit.

Fishermen enjoy trying their luck from the Surfside Pier, which offers a tackle shop, arcade and ice cream shop and is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Fish caught from Surfside Pier include amberjack, barracuda, bluefish, cobia, dolphin, flounder, king mackerel, red drum, sea bass, sea trout, sharks, Spanish mackerel, speckled trout, spots, stripers and tarpon.

Surfside Beach is a family-friendly community that offers a variety of activities for all ages. Wild Water & Wheels is a 16-acre park offering a water park, miniature golf, bumper boats, go karts, kiddie rides and more. Also in Surfside Beach is the Surfside Bowling & Billiard Center, as well as a variety of restaurants for those of all ages to enjoy.

Surfside Beach is also home to Legends in Concert, which is a celebrity impersonator show theater that offers nightly shows throughout the year. The world-famous live tribute show presented by Legends in Concert is a fun-filled concert that is enjoyed by visitors of all ages. In addition to the performers who look, act and sing like your favorite celebrities, Legends in Concert also offers a live band, singers, dancers, special effects and lighting to complete the performance.

The area known today as Surfside Beach was previously known as Roach’s Beach and then Floral Beach. Only a few buildings in the area survived the hurricane of 1893, while Hurricane Hazel in 1954 destroyed 18 of the beach’s 65 houses. The spirit of residents prevailed, and the area was incorporated as Surfside Beach in 1964.

The new town government that was established at this time created increased police protection, sanitation control, water line and street improvements and more – all of which increased property values in Surfside Beach, making it one of the fastest growing parts of the country, along with the rest of the Pawleys Island.
