About Socastee

Socastee is a small coastal community in South Carolina located just south of Myrtle Beach. Home to unique attractions like the Socastee Historic District and the South Carolina Civil War Museum, yet close to Myrtle Beach and other Pawleys Island area attractions, Socastee is a coastal South Carolina gem.

In 1711, Socastee was a Native American name referred to as "Sawkastee" in a land grand to Percival Pawley. Other important points in the history of Socastee included a small forces battle of American and British troops in 1781 near Socastee Creek. The Socastee community is also known for its role as a center for production and distribution of turpentine and tar by the 1870s.

In 2002, the Socastee Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places. A metal swing bridge, the Samuel S. Sarvis House, the Thomas B. Cooper House, the Thomas B. Cooper Store, and the old Pecan Grove are all located in the Socastee Historic District, which is located along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Socastee offers its residents and visitors close proximity to nearby Myrtle Beach and all it has to offer.
