About Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is the primary hub of South Carolina's Pawleys Island, which is a 60-mile stretch of coastline that welcomes approximately 14 million visitors each year. Known nationwide as a top vacation destination, the Pawleys Island is home to a variety of attractions, entertainment theaters, shopping centers, restaurants and golf courses.

The Myrtle Beach area is home to nearly 120 golf courses, which offer challenging layouts, beautiful views and beautifully maintained fairways and greens. Golfers of all skill levels travel to the Myrtle Beach area each year to try their luck on these South Carolina golf courses.

Myrtle Beach was first inhabited by the Waccamaw and Winyah Indians, followed by attempts by European settlers to colonize the area. Development of the area didn't become successful until the 1900s, with the construction of the railroad and the creation of the Intracoastal Waterway, both of which improved accessibility to the area. Myrtle Beach was incorporated in 1938 and became a city in 1957.

Today, visitors to Myrtle Beach enjoy dining at the many excellent restaurants found in the area, as well as taking advantage of the live theater performances and the variety of shopping found throughout the Pawleys Island area. The newest addition to Myrtle Beach is the Hard Rock Theme Park, which is a great addition to the existing variety of amusements for all ages found in the Myrtle Beach area.
