About Little River

Little River is a quaint South Carolina coastal village located at the border between North Carolina and South Carolina. One of the oldest settlements along the coast, Little River was settled by fishermen and farmers in the late 1600s and 1700s. The town of Little River gets its name from its river that flows into the Atlantic Ocean here.

In the 1850s, Little River became a prosperous South Carolina port, where it shipped vinal lumber and naval stores to Northern markets. The town also had a sawmill, stores, school, waterhouse, bank, churches and homes. Though the Civil War destroyed most of this progress, determination of citizens in Little River prevailed.

Today, Little River offers a variety of deep-sea, charter and commercial fishing. Casino cruise boats also operate from Little River, taking passengers offshore to international waters on their multi-level cruise boats for a variety of gambling opportunities. Little River is possibly most well-known for their annual Blue Crab Festival, which takes place each May and brings thousands of visitors to this coastal community.

Little River, located just 15 minutes north of Myrtle Beach, is also home to area golf courses, restaurants, shops, miniature golf courses, hotels and more. Residents and visitors of Little River take advantage of the short drive to North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach, both of which offer an abundance of additional shopping, dining, amusement and entertainment opportunities for those of all ages.
